Tottenham’s goalscoring options have become a growing concern, with none of the club’s three highest scorers from last season – Richarlison, Joao Palhinha and Cristian Romero – now part of the current Spurs squad.

That has inevitably raised questions among supporters about where Roberto De Zerbi’s side will find enough goals this season.

Omar Marmoush has shown some encouraging touches outside the penalty area, but he is still waiting to demonstrate the clinical finishing required in front of goal. Dominic Solanke, meanwhile, has struggled to rediscover his best form after missing the entirety of last season through injury.

With those concerns becoming increasingly apparent, reports over recent weeks have suggested that Tottenham are prioritising the signing of a high-quality striker during the January transfer window, particularly following Richarlison’s departure.

Tottenham interested in Oh Hyeon-gyu

According to Turkish Football, Tottenham have identified Besiktas forward Oh Hyeon-gyu as a ‘primary target’ ahead of the winter transfer window.

The report claims that Spurs legend Heung-min Son has recommended his South Korean international teammate to the North London club as a potential addition to De Zerbi’s attack.

Tottenham have reportedly been monitoring the 25-year-old closely this season and have been impressed by his aerial ability and willingness to press opponents with intensity.

The report adds that Spurs are looking for an ‘aggressive target man capable of linking play’, while also being able to occupy opposing defenders and provide a focal point for the attack.

Oh is subsequently viewed as a strong tactical fit for Tottenham’s frontline and the style of football De Zerbi wants his team to play.

Besiktas reluctant to sell Oh

Oh Hyeon-gyu joined Besiktas during the summer of 2025, and although his numbers have been relatively modest, he has contributed nine goals and six assists in 29 appearances for the Turkish club.

However, Tottenham could face a significant challenge if they attempt to sign him in January.

Besiktas are reportedly ‘firm in its stance’ over the striker and would be ‘extremely reluctant’ to allow him to leave during the middle of the season.

According to the report, Spurs would therefore need to make a ‘lucrative offer’ if they are to convince the Istanbul-based club to part ways with the South Korean forward.

Besiktas paid around €14 million (£12m) for Oh just over a year ago, meaning Tottenham may have to make a substantial financial commitment to secure his services.
