Kicker Harrison Butker of the Kansas City Chiefs pays a special tribute to Parade Victim Lisa Lopez Galvan.
This year’s Super Bowl parade in Kansas City took a dark turn after a brutal shooting spree killed beloved local DJ jockey Lisa Lopez-Galvin. The mother of two was the sole one killed in this tragic occurrence; 23 other people, including her son, were injured by gunshots. While the football community laments this senseless death, the Chiefs players and the people of Kansas City showed their support for Lisa’s family by donating money. Harrison Butker, the placekicker, also made headlines with his touching gesture.
The 43-year-old “Taste of Tejano” personality reportedly attended the event wearing a white Harrison Butker jersey. One of Lisa’s family members posted on social media following her untimely death to say they were having trouble locating the same jersey they had planned to wear to her burial on Saturday.
The Chiefs were notified of this and promptly organized a white Butker jersey for the family, with the talented placekicker contributing as well. Then, Butker talked about this and shared his and his wife’s sadness for the “degenerate violence” that sadly claimed Lisa’s life. Lisa was a follower of Butker’s who was greatly admired for both his athletic ability and his Catholic faith.
I pray that the men responsible for this tragedy will be held accountable for their actions, as murder is a sin that begs God’s retribution. It makes this even more personal to learn that she appreciated my outspokenness over our shared Catholic faith, Butker added. It is a privilege for me to give the family a jersey that she may wear. I will keep praying for the family’s healing and Lisa’s spirit to rest while they deal with their many ailments and grieve her loss, according to NBC Sports.
