Tottenham Hotspur invested heavily in rebuilding their squad during the summer transfer window, bringing in 10 new players as Roberto De Zerbi looked to reshape his team.
One of the club’s biggest priorities was strengthening the defence, with several experienced players arriving to address concerns at the back. However, Spurs have endured a disappointing start to the campaign and remain at the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points from their opening five matches.
Tottenham have scored only two goals during that run, while their defensive improvements have yet to produce the desired results.
The Lilywhites managed consecutive clean sheets in their draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton, but they were unable to maintain that defensive solidity against Aston Villa, conceding three goals to a side that has also struggled for consistency and confidence.
With Spurs still looking for greater defensive stability, another centre-back could potentially be on their radar.
Christian Falk reveals Tottenham interest in Kim Min-jae
According to respected German journalist Christian Falk, Tottenham are among three clubs monitoring Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, alongside AC Milan and Aston Villa.
However, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany remains satisfied with the South Korean international, while the Bundesliga giants are preparing to hold discussions with the 29-year-old about his future.
“I can say it’s still true that Bayern Munich will be the first club he opens any kind of talks with. But it will depend on a number of things, like what Bayern are offering this Autumn when they open talks over his future? Will they say Min-jae Kim can sign a new contract? Or is he still one of the players the club would consider selling to bring in some money?” Christian Falk exclusively told CFBayern Insider.
“This is why other clubs have Kim in their focus. Aston Villa is interested, and I heard both Tottenham and AC Milan are also looking at the South Korean international. In fact, the three clubs in question already made contact in the summer for Kim, but in the end, there was no offer.
“So, nothing concrete at the moment. I wouldn’t expect a January move or anything. Everything will depend on what Bayern Munich will tell Kim in contract talks this year.”
Bayern preparing to discuss Kim Min-jae’s future
Kim has fallen behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah in Bayern’s defensive pecking order, although he remains an important member of Kompany’s squad.
The Bayern boss has continued to rotate his players, giving Kim regular opportunities across different competitions. The defender has already accumulated 399 minutes from five appearances for the German champions this season.
Since joining Bayern from Napoli in 2023, Kim has made 121 appearances for the club over just three seasons. During that period, he has helped Bayern win two Bundesliga titles as well as the German Cup.
Recent reports indicate that Bayern’s hierarchy are planning discussions with Kim and his representatives to determine his role and long-term future at the club.
Should Bayern eventually decide to make the South Korean defender available for transfer, reports suggest they could demand a fee in the region of €25 million to €30 million.
For now, however, a January departure appears unlikely. Kim remains part of Kompany’s plans, meaning Tottenham may have to wait before making a serious move for the former Napoli defender.
If Bayern’s position changes, Spurs could potentially revisit their interest in the future, with a summer 2027 move currently appearing more realistic.
