Tottenham Hotspur right winger Mohammed Kudus was the team’s best player in the opening months of the 2025/26 Premier League season after he was first signed, to the point where Thomas Frank ran him into the ground and relied heavily on him to carry the entire attack. When Kudus went down with an injury that eventually cost him the remainder of the season, it was no coincidence that Tottenham got even worse.
Kudus is one of the best dribblers in the Premier League, and while he has shown flashes of that ability this season, he has not been able to perform at his best due to ongoing fitness issues. Kudus still has to prove to everyone in the Premier League that he can be a difference-maker as an inverted winger who can score goals and provide assists at a high level.
Tottenham have started the 2026/27 Premier League season in embarrassing fashion, and they are currently bottom of the table at the September international break after a crushing 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa. Kudus produced some nice individual moments but did not do enough to help his team in the second half of the defeat, and that has been the case for him this season whenever he has played.
Tottenham Need a Fully Fit Mohammed Kudus
But Mohammed Kudus is showing that he is taking things seriously at Tottenham Hotspur. According to a report from Joy Sports Ghana, Kudus has decided to opt out of Ghana’s squad for the AFCON qualifying matches this autumn. Even though he has been called up and remains crucial to his country, Kudus reportedly prefers to focus 100 percent on Spurs.
And Spurs need him. They need Kudus to be fully fit, and since he has already been struggling for months to regain full fitness, the Lilywhites need to see the winger prioritising his fitness. They need him back at full strength, even after signing the Manchester City duo of Savio and Omar Marmoush, because it is not as though Spurs are suddenly scoring more goals with their new attacking additions.
The last thing Tottenham need is for Kudus to suffer another injury during the international break. Spurs have found time and time again, with players such as Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero last year, and even Pedro Porro this year, that international fixtures can leave clubs without key players.
Spurs need a fully fit and 100 percent focused Mohammed Kudus.
