Tottenham Hotspur showed plenty of ambition during the summer transfer window, bringing in ten new players after investing more than £300 million in the squad. The club targeted improvements across virtually every area of the pitch as they looked to begin a new era under Roberto De Zerbi.
However, the early signs have been far from encouraging. Tottenham are struggling for goals and are still waiting for their first Premier League victory of the season after five matches. They finally ended their league scoring drought on Saturday by finding the net twice against Aston Villa, but those goals were not enough as Spurs suffered a 3-2 defeat at home.
Dominic Solanke endured another frustrating afternoon and failed to make a significant impact, prompting De Zerbi to question the striker’s physical contribution after the match. Summer arrival Omar Marmoush also failed to produce the desired impact.
Following the defeat to Villa, De Zerbi admitted that Tottenham were unable to sign a traditional centre-forward during the summer for a number of reasons, including Financial Fair Play restrictions. Nevertheless, the club are expected to revisit their attacking options in the future, with a striker potentially becoming a major priority.
Tottenham keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund striker
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are among several clubs assessing their options in attack ahead of the January transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy reportedly being monitored.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the experienced forward, who has established himself as one of the most prolific penalty-box strikers in European football.
Guirassy has enjoyed an impressive spell at Borussia Dortmund since joining from VfB Stuttgart in 2024. The Guinea international scored a combined 50 goals across his first two seasons with the Bundesliga giants and has already made a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring four times in six appearances across all competitions.
His goalscoring record also impressed during his time at Stuttgart, where he found the net 44 times.
Despite his impressive form, Dortmund are reportedly not currently interested in losing one of their key attacking players. The German club believe they have a squad capable of mounting a serious challenge for the Bundesliga title and are therefore unlikely to welcome approaches for Guirassy midway through the season.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have yet to make a definitive decision on whether to pursue the 30-year-old. However, his goalscoring record and experience could make him an attractive option as Spurs continue to search for greater firepower up front.
If Tottenham eventually decide to make a serious move for Guirassy in January, they are likely to face a difficult negotiation. Spurs would need to present a substantial offer to persuade Dortmund to part with one of their most prolific forwards during the middle of the season.
