Completely Unexpected Club Statement Leaves Fans DEVASTATED as Regretful Decision Is Made on Elite Player’s Future Despite Newcastle Win

A week after reportedly expressing his frustration over Jack Grealish’s failure to attend a scheduled Everton training session, David Moyes’ position on the midfielder remains a subject of considerable interest.

There is still uncertainty surrounding the circumstances that led to Grealish’s omission from Everton’s squad, although the club’s official explanation ahead of their second meeting with Newcastle United was that the Manchester City loanee was not match fit.

Grealish had already been left out of the squad for Everton’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle, with the decision reportedly linked to a disciplinary issue after he failed to report for training.

The Sun subsequently published a report claiming that the England international had spent two nights drinking at a pub and karaoke bar shortly before his absence from training became an issue.

The report added another layer to the controversy surrounding the 31-year-old, although the exact circumstances behind his failure to attend the scheduled session remain unclear.

When Moyes was questioned about Grealish’s omission from the Carabao Cup encounter, he refused to discuss the details, making it clear that the matter had been handled internally.

“You probably know I am not going to give any details [about what happened]. It is a club decision and I support it,” the Everton manager explained.

Asked whether he felt disappointed by the player’s actions, Moyes again avoided going into specifics.

“It is something I don’t want to speak about too much,” he added.

However, the Everton boss appeared keen to highlight the importance of discipline and togetherness within his squad, making a pointed reference to the club’s values after the victory over Newcastle.

“The one thing about Everton is that they have got real good values. All the players stand behind it and accept the values, on the pitch and off the pitch and I think the players did a good job,” Moyes said.

He also praised the attitude of his players, acknowledging the limitations of his relatively small squad while insisting that nobody was looking for excuses.

“It is a small squad but we are doing our best to keep challenging. We are not accepting any excuses for nothing and I think the players are doing a great job, there was a humility about us [tonight], we have to play Newcastle again on Monday.”

Everton Have Not Given Up on Grealish

Despite the disciplinary issue, reports from BBC Sport suggest that Everton do not consider the incident to be Grealish’s final opportunity to prove himself at the club.

The report indicated that the club was not treating the situation as a definitive turning point in his Everton career, suggesting that there remains a route back into the squad.

There have reportedly been occasional concerns about the winger’s punctuality in the past, although the latest incident was described as more serious than previous issues.

Grealish has generally been regarded as a player who works hard in training and maintains his fitness, making the circumstances surrounding his absence particularly disappointing.

However, Moyes is also aware of the limited options available to him. With only 18 senior outfield players at his disposal, Everton cannot afford to discard experienced players without carefully considering the consequences.

Although Grealish is yet to register a goal or an assist for the Toffees this season, his contribution should not be judged by those numbers alone.

His creativity remains an important part of Everton’s attacking options. The statistics highlighted in the original report show that he averages 2.6 chances created per 90 minutes, slightly ahead of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s 2.5.

His experience could also prove valuable to a squad that has increasingly depended on younger players, particularly in attacking positions.

Tyrique George Makes the Most of Grealish’s Absence

One player who has benefited from Grealish’s continued absence is Tyrique George, who has taken the opportunity to make a strong impression.

The young winger, signed permanently from Chelsea for £24 million after spending time on loan at Everton, has quickly demonstrated why the club invested in his potential.

At just 19, George has become one of Everton’s most exciting attacking options. The statistics provided in the original report place him tenth in the Premier League for successful dribbles per 90 minutes, averaging 2.9.

His performance against Newcastle offered further evidence of the threat he can provide.

George looked dangerous from the opening stages, using his pace, confidence and close control to trouble Amar Dedic down the flank.

His direct approach gave Everton an attacking outlet, while Dewsbury-Hall recognised the opportunities available on that side and repeatedly looked to combine with the youngster.

The partnership caused Newcastle significant problems, particularly during a first half in which the visitors created several promising opportunities.

Thierno Barry missed a good chance after failing to make proper contact with the ball, while Harrison Armstrong also had an opportunity he would have expected to do better with after being set up by Dewsbury-Hall.

Despite Everton’s encouraging display, the teams went into the break level, leaving Moyes with reasons to wonder how his side had failed to establish a lead.

Newcastle, meanwhile, were far from convincing, with their supporters expressing their frustration as the players left the pitch at half-time.

Everton eventually found the breakthrough shortly after the restart, with George playing a significant role in the move.

The winger made a dangerous run that Newcastle’s defensive players failed to track properly. His powerful effort was not ideally placed, but it slipped underneath goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek and allowed Barry to finish from close range.

The goal highlighted the pace and directness George has brought to Everton’s attacking play during Grealish’s absence.

Grealish Could Return to a Different Role

Merlin Rohl also impressed on the opposite flank, adding further energy to an Everton attack that has looked more balanced during their consecutive victories over Newcastle.

The combination of pace, direct running and aggressive attacking movement has given Moyes another possible blueprint for his team.

Everton have also shown that they can defend stubbornly when required, particularly during the closing stages of their 1-0 victory at St James’ Park.

For Grealish, the timing of the disciplinary controversy could hardly have been worse.

Everton have enjoyed arguably their most productive week of the campaign, securing a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Fleetwood Town and moving up to seventh in the Premier League.

Their next assignment against Coventry City at Hill Dickinson Stadium also presents an opportunity to continue their impressive run and strengthen their position in the table.

Grealish is expected to be reintegrated into the squad once the club considers the matter resolved. However, the performances of George and his teammates have created fresh competition for attacking places.

Rather than immediately reclaiming his previous position, Grealish could find himself having to earn his place again, potentially beginning his return from the substitutes’ bench.

His quality and experience remain valuable to Everton, but the recent performances of the players filling his position have given Moyes something important to consider.

The winger may still have a future role to play, but George’s emergence means that returning to the starting XI will no longer be a straightforward task.
