Frank Lampard Impressed by Tottenham Despite Their Difficult Start

Just a few weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspur might have viewed their upcoming home clash against Coventry City as a good opportunity to secure their first Premier League victory of the season. However, the situation has changed considerably, with the newly promoted side winning their last two matches and moving up the table.

Coventry headed into the international break on a high after securing a clean-sheet victory at the City Ground. They continued their impressive run last week by producing a stunning performance against Newcastle United, thrashing the Magpies 4-1 on home soil.

That emphatic result has served as a warning to Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham side, with Monday’s encounter now looking considerably more challenging than it might have appeared a few weeks ago.

Despite Spurs’ disappointing results, Coventry manager Frank Lampard has been impressed by what he has seen from the North London club this season.

Tottenham have faced criticism over their performances and position in the league, but there have been encouraging signs of improvement in recent weeks. Their display in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford was arguably their most impressive performance of the campaign so far.

The underlying statistics also suggest that Tottenham’s current position may not accurately reflect the quality of their performances. Lampard is therefore expecting a difficult contest, acknowledging that his team will be facing a talented side managed by an experienced coach.

Speaking about Tottenham, Lampard said, via BBC Sport: “When I look at them play, they have a lot of quality with a very good coach. We worry about ourselves and the start we had on paper to where we’ve got to with these two wins makes us feel good, so it’s not the time for comparison.”

The former Chelsea midfielder also explained what he expects from Spurs, recognising that Tottenham could approach the contest with confidence despite their struggles.

He added: “As [we’re] a promoted side, I’m sure they’ll have a feeling of confidence against us. That’s fine. We have to believe in ourselves and go there with our own confidence and play with the same purpose we did against Newcastle.”

Alan Shearer Warns Tottenham of Another Potential Relegation Battle

Although Tottenham’s spirited comeback against Manchester United has offered supporters reasons to be optimistic, their situation remains delicate, and another disappointing result could quickly increase the pressure on De Zerbi.

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has issued a significant warning to Tottenham ahead of their meeting with Coventry, suggesting that the club could find themselves embroiled in another serious relegation battle if they fail to collect all three points.

Spurs showed considerable determination at Old Trafford, particularly after being reduced to 10 men. Dominic Solanke’s late equaliser rescued a point and provided a much-needed boost following their difficult start to the campaign.

However, Shearer believes Tottenham cannot afford to rely on encouraging performances alone. With the club still searching for their first league victory, he considers Monday’s fixture particularly important to their hopes of moving away from danger.

The Newcastle legend acknowledged Tottenham’s resilience against Manchester United but stressed the importance of turning their improved performances into victories.

Shearer said: “I know they did really well when down to 10 men, coming back and getting a Solanke goal. So, that in itself will give them a bit of confidence, but they need a win massively.

“If they don’t beat Coventry on Monday, then I think they’ll be in a massive relegation battle, and I think that’s how big a game it is.”

For De Zerbi, the upcoming encounter represents an important opportunity to secure his first Premier League victory with Tottenham and ease the growing pressure surrounding the club.

However, Coventry’s recent results demonstrate that Lampard’s team will arrive with plenty of confidence. Spurs will need to build on their encouraging display against Manchester United and show greater efficiency in front of goal if they are to secure a crucial three points.
