Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly consider a move for former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe if Roberto De Zerbi’s difficult start to the 2026/27 season eventually results in a managerial change.

De Zerbi has faced growing scrutiny after Spurs endured a disappointing opening to the campaign. Tottenham went into the international break without a Premier League victory from their first five matches and also suffered an early Carabao Cup exit following their defeat to Liverpool.

The results have inevitably raised questions over De Zerbi’s position, with reports suggesting that members of Tottenham’s hierarchy may already be looking at possible alternatives should they decide to make a change.

Among the names reportedly being considered is Eddie Howe.

Football Insider previously reported comments from former Tottenham senior scout Bryan King, who suggested that Howe could be an option for Spurs if De Zerbi is eventually relieved of his duties. Howe’s extensive Premier League experience, along with his previous spells at Bournemouth and Newcastle, could make him an attractive candidate.

The 48-year-old is currently available after ending his lengthy spell at Newcastle during the summer. Matthias Jaissle subsequently took over at St James’ Park, leaving Howe without a club.

Howe has also been linked with Tottenham in the past. TEAMtalk reported earlier in the year that his name had been discussed at board level as the club considered potential managerial options.

That previous interest could potentially put Howe back on Tottenham’s radar if the situation surrounding De Zerbi deteriorates further.

However, there is currently no indication that Tottenham have made a formal approach for Howe or that negotiations are underway. At this stage, his name is being mentioned as a possible candidate rather than as someone who has been chosen to replace De Zerbi.

For now, De Zerbi remains in charge at Tottenham, but the growing scrutiny around his position has inevitably led to speculation about who could take over if the club decides to change managers.

Should Spurs ultimately part company with the Italian, Howe could emerge as one of the potential options considered by the Tottenham hierarchy as they look for a new direction.
