NO-NONSENSE JAMIE O’HARA RIPS INTO PREMIER LEAGUE VAR After JOHN BROOKS’ SHOCKING RED-CARD SNUB in Leeds vs Tottenham That Could Have Changed the Entire Game at Elland Road!

Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing afternoon against Leeds United has been overshadowed by another major refereeing controversy after Jayden Bogle escaped a red card for a dangerous-looking challenge on Mathys Tel.

The incident has triggered widespread debate among football supporters, with former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara reportedly expressing serious frustration over the decision not to dismiss the Leeds defender.

The flashpoint occurred during the first half at Elland Road when Tel attempted to turn away from Bogle. However, the Leeds defender caught the French forward around the back of his ankle, with his studs making contact near the Achilles area.

Tel immediately went down in pain, prompting concerns from Tottenham players and the coaching staff.

Referee John Brooks initially allowed the incident to pass without showing Bogle a card. VAR subsequently checked the challenge for a possible red card, leaving supporters waiting several minutes for an outcome.

Despite the lengthy review and the availability of multiple replay angles, the decision was eventually confirmed.

Bogle remained on the pitch without receiving even a yellow card.

VAR EXPLANATION SPARKS FRESH ANGER

The Premier League Match Centre later provided an explanation for why Bogle was not sent off.

According to the explanation, VAR agreed with the referee’s original decision because there was a lack of speed going into the challenge and Bogle was stepping into the tackle.

The VAR official described it as a reckless challenge but confirmed that the on-field decision of no red card would stand.

That explanation has done little to settle the argument.

For many Tottenham supporters, the major concern is not simply that Bogle avoided a dismissal, but that a challenge involving contact around an opponent’s Achilles was not considered serious enough to warrant stronger disciplinary action.

The question being asked is whether the officials properly considered the potential danger of the contact and the impact it could have had on Tel.

JAMIE O’HARA AMONG THOSE QUESTIONING THE DECISION

O’Hara was reportedly furious with the outcome, describing the decision as a disgrace and the worst decision he had seen.

His reaction reflects the frustration among sections of the Tottenham fanbase, who believe VAR had an opportunity to correct what they considered a serious mistake by the on-field officials.

The former Spurs midfielder’s criticism also raises a familiar question about the technology: if VAR can spend several minutes examining an incident from different angles, why do supporters continue to see decisions that leave them questioning the standard of officiating?

There is also the issue of consistency.

Football supporters regularly point to similar-looking challenges that have resulted in red cards in other matches. Although every incident must be judged on its own circumstances, the perceived difference in disciplinary outcomes continues to damage confidence in refereeing decisions.

TEL FORCED OFF AFTER THE CHALLENGE

The situation became even more concerning for Tottenham when Tel was unable to continue.

Despite receiving treatment and attempting to carry on, the forward was visibly uncomfortable and eventually limped off in the 43rd minute. Dominic Solanke replaced him.

His substitution added another layer of frustration for Spurs, particularly because the challenge that left him struggling had resulted in no disciplinary punishment for Bogle.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi was also visibly unhappy with the decision during the match.

For Spurs supporters, the concern is now twofold: the possibility of an injury to Tel and the feeling that Leeds were allowed to keep all eleven players on the pitch following a challenge they believed deserved a red card.

ANOTHER VAR CONTROVERSY FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE

The Bogle incident has once again placed the Premier League’s officiating standards under the spotlight.

VAR was introduced to help officials correct major mistakes, particularly in situations involving serious foul play. However, decisions like this continue to generate arguments about whether the technology is being applied consistently.

Leeds eventually secured a 1-0 victory, with Noah Okafor scoring the decisive goal in the 79th minute.

But the result is unlikely to be the only talking point from Elland Road. The decision involving Bogle and Tel is already attracting considerable attention, and Tottenham supporters will want further clarity over why the officials believed the challenge did not meet the threshold for a red card.

For now, Bogle has escaped punishment, Tel has been forced off, and another Premier League VAR decision has left supporters demanding answers.
