According to Football Insider, Pedro Porro would seriously consider a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid if the opportunity arises. The Tottenham Hotspur right-back is reportedly flattered by the interest from both Spanish giants and is becoming increasingly tempted by the prospect of returning to his homeland.
Porro joined Tottenham from Sporting CP in 2023 in a deal worth €45 million following an initial loan spell. However, the 27-year-old is understood to have grown frustrated with the club’s current direction. Despite signing a new contract during the summer, the Spanish defender is reportedly questioning whether Spurs can provide the platform he needs to fulfil his ambitions at this stage of his career.
Pedro Porro’s ambitions could create a major problem for Tottenham
Porro’s growing reputation in Spain has strengthened his appeal to Barcelona and Real Madrid, particularly following his performances for the national team during their successful 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. The full-back has established himself as an important figure at international level and now wants his club career to reflect his growing status.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid could offer opportunities that Tottenham currently struggle to match, including regular Champions League football and a realistic chance of challenging for major honours.
However, a departure from North London is not inevitable. Porro remains under contract with Spurs and has developed into one of the club’s most influential players since arriving in England. His importance to the team was evident last season when he made 47 appearances across all competitions.
Although a current injury has kept him out of action since September, his reputation among potential suitors remains strong. Barcelona could view the Spaniard as an attractive option at right-back, particularly with questions surrounding Jules Kounde’s long-term future in that position.
Real Madrid could also offer Porro an opportunity to join one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs. Trent Alexander-Arnold has struggled to make the desired impact since arriving from Liverpool, while Jose Mourinho has reportedly used Federico Valverde at right-back, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding Madrid’s options in that area.
Barcelona could provide Porro with a clearer route
At 27, Porro is approaching a crucial stage of his career, and the opportunity to join one of Spain’s biggest clubs could be difficult to turn down. Rather than waiting several more years for another chance, the Tottenham defender may feel this is the right time to test himself at the highest level.
Should either Barcelona or Real Madrid submit a serious proposal, Tottenham could find themselves dealing with a player who believes he has earned the opportunity to compete regularly for the biggest trophies in European football.
Barcelona arguably represent the more suitable destination from a tactical perspective. Porro’s attacking instincts, overlapping runs and ability to combine with teammates in advanced positions would fit naturally into a possession-based system. His experience playing alongside Spain’s attacking talents could also help him settle quickly at the Catalan club.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, would offer enormous prestige and the chance to compete for major honours. However, the competition for places could make it more difficult for Porro to secure regular playing time.
For Tottenham, the potential departure of one of their most effective attacking defenders would represent another significant setback. Losing a player of Porro’s quality would leave the club with another major issue to address in the transfer market.
His contract gives Spurs a degree of control over any potential negotiations, but keeping him happy could prove far more challenging if Barcelona or Real Madrid make their interest concrete. Ultimately, Tottenham may need to demonstrate that their long-term ambitions match Porro’s expectations if they are to prevent one of Spain’s biggest clubs from luring him away.
