Tottenham Hotspur have turned down an offer from UAE side Shabab Al Ahli for Richarlison, seemingly closing what could have been the final realistic opportunity for the Brazilian forward to leave the club during the summer window.

Richarlison appears to have already played his last competitive match for Spurs and is now expected to remain at the club until the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has continued to make appearances around the team despite being unavailable for selection, including being spotted at Tottenham’s recent 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

Richarlison sends message after Villa defeat

Tottenham’s ongoing struggles in front of goal have only intensified the spotlight on Richarlison’s situation.

Spurs have created opportunities this season but have lacked the clinical finishing required to turn those chances into goals. That has inevitably raised questions about the decision to leave last season’s leading scorer completely outside the squad.

Richarlison appeared keen to show supporters that he remains committed to maintaining his fitness.

Just hours after Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa, the striker posted a photograph from the training ground on his Instagram story alongside the caption: “The focus remains.”

He later shared footage of himself completing sprint drills at Hotspur Way, revealing that he had reached a top speed of 35.4km/h and claiming that he had broken his personal record.

The impressive figure would place him among Tottenham’s quickest players based on their Premier League performances this season.

Tottenham’s Richarlison situation becoming increasingly complicated

While Richarlison’s social media activity has attracted plenty of attention, the bigger issue for Tottenham concerns what his absence could mean for the team.

The Brazilian was left out of Spurs’ 25-man Premier League squad at the beginning of September, and Roberto De Zerbi has since indicated that the situation remains unchanged. As things stand, Richarlison is unavailable for both Premier League and domestic cup selection.

The decision may have appeared easier to understand earlier in the campaign when Tottenham had more attacking options available and the season was still in its early stages.

However, Spurs’ struggles in front of goal have changed the picture considerably.

Dominic Solanke has yet to consistently provide the goals Tottenham need, while De Zerbi has also used Mathys Tel and Omar Marmoush in central attacking roles.

Richarlison would not automatically solve all of Spurs’ problems, but he would provide a different attacking profile. The Brazilian is known for his physical presence in the box, his willingness to attack crosses and his previous record of scoring goals in the Premier League.

That makes his complete exclusion from the squad increasingly difficult for supporters to ignore.

There could, of course, be circumstances surrounding Richarlison’s relationship with the club that have not been made public. Tottenham clearly believed the situation was serious enough to remove him from their Premier League squad.

Nevertheless, if Spurs continue to struggle for goals, questions will inevitably be asked about whether the club have unnecessarily reduced their own attacking options by leaving their leading scorer from last season on the sidelines.

A difficult decision for Spurs

There is also an unusual situation developing around Richarlison.

Tottenham rejected Shabab Al Ahli’s offer for the forward, yet at present there appears to be no clear route for him back into De Zerbi’s first-team plans.

If Spurs believe Richarlison is worth more than what was offered during the summer, keeping him away from competitive football for several months could also make his situation more complicated when the January transfer window arrives.

The longer the Brazilian remains unavailable, the more attention the club’s decision is likely to attract—particularly if Tottenham’s problems in front of goal continue.

Richarlison’s situation, therefore, is no longer simply a case of an unwanted player waiting for his next transfer.

It has become a significant sporting and financial decision for Tottenham, one the club could face increasing pressure to explain if their poor start to the season continues until January.
