With just one day left in the Tour de France, Adej Pogacar maintained his incredible lead by winning the fifth stage.

Within the last 500 meters up the Col de la Couillole, the Slovenian, who was competing for UAE Team Emirates, raced clear of the reigning winner, Jonas Vingegaard.

The two-time winner now leads the overall classification by five minutes and fourteen seconds after stretching his lead over the Visma–Lease a Bike rider by seven seconds.

Since German sprinter Marcel Kittel in 2017, Pogacar became the only rider to win five stages in a single Tour de France.

The last stage of this year’s tour is the time trial in Nice on Sunday, and Pogacar is probably going to give his competitors even more trouble.

RichardHaving scored enough points earlier in the stage to take home the King of the Mountains jersey, Carapaz crossed the finish line in third place.

Holder of the green jersey With a commanding lead over his competitor sprinters, Biniam Girmay finished safely inside the time limit and is poised to become the first African of African descent to win the tour’s points championship.

Mark Cavendish, a British racer competing in his final Tour de France and a double winner, was accompanied by three teammates as he crossed the finish line in tears.
