Denver Children’s Choir Spreads Holiday Cheer with 2024 “Songs of the Season” Concert Series
Denver, CO — The Denver Children’s Choir (DCC) is once again enchanting audiences with its annual “Songs of the Season” concerts, a beloved holiday tradition that brings the community together through the universal language of music. This year’s series showcases the talent, passion, and dedication of the choir’s young vocalists, offering a heartwarming celebration of the festive season.
A Festive Tradition
The “Songs of the Season” concert series is a cornerstone of the DCC’s programming. Each December, the choir’s various ensembles—comprised of children and teens from diverse backgrounds—come together to deliver a repertoire of classic holiday carols, multicultural pieces, and contemporary arrangements. The 2024 performances promise a magical blend of joy and reflection, as the choir draws on its rich history of musical excellence.
Artistic Director Sarah Harrison shared her excitement for this year’s concerts:
“Our mission is to inspire and unite people through song, and the ‘Songs of the Season’ concerts are a perfect embodiment of that. This year, we’re blending timeless favorites like O Holy Night with new, vibrant pieces that reflect the cultural richness of our community.”
Concert Highlights
The series includes three performances across Denver’s iconic venues:
- December 18th at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church – Known for its stunning acoustics and historic charm, this venue sets the tone for an intimate and moving evening of music.
- December 20th at Denver Botanic Gardens’ York Street location – Audiences can revel in holiday spirit surrounded by the Gardens’ twinkling Blossoms of Light display.
- December 22nd at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts – The grand finale of the series will take place in this state-of-the-art venue, offering a professional concert experience.
Each performance will feature more than 200 singers from DCC’s training choirs, concert choirs, and premier ensembles. Special guests, including local instrumentalists and alumni singers, will join the choir to create a dynamic and collaborative musical experience.
Diversity Through Music
One of the hallmarks of the Denver Children’s Choir is its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The 2024 “Songs of the Season” program reflects this mission, featuring music from around the world, including African, Latin American, and European traditions. Pieces like the lively South African hymn Siyahamba and the evocative Spanish carol Riu Riu Chiu are sure to resonate with audiences.
“Music is a universal language that brings people together,” said Harrison. “We hope this year’s concerts will inspire joy, connection, and a deeper appreciation for the cultural diversity that enriches our community.”
