BRAEKING NEWS: Cowboys just welcome another new wide receiver tread…………..

Cowboys Rumors: Teams anticipate release; Michael Gallup granted permission to pursue a trade.

Amid rumors that the Dallas Cowboys will release wide receiver Michael Gallup, the team has permitted him to begin seeking a trade, per the Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins.

While Gallup could potentially land with a new team in a trade, teams expect the Cowboys to release him, Watkins noted, which could make finding a potential suitor more difficult given he could be on the market in a few weeks.

Gallup, who had 1,000+ receiving yards in 2019, failed to amass more than 500 receiving yards in the past three seasons. He had a career-low 418 yards and two touchdowns in 2023.

After a pair of strong seasons in 2019 and 2020—followed by an injury-ridden season in 2021—the Cowboys gave Gallup a five-year, $57.5 million deal ahead of the 2022 season. Since inking that deal, Gallup’s production has dropped, making it difficult to justify his contract.

Gallup is set to have a $13.85 million salary cap hit in 2024 if the Cowboys hold on to him, but they could save around $9 million should they release him.

Of course, Gallup could find a team willing to trade for him despite his inevitable release later this offseason. The scenario could be a win for both Gallup and Dallas, as he would find a landing spot and the Cowboys could get some return from him.

For now, Gallup will likely weigh his options in the trade market as he awaits the beginning of free agency on March 13.
