EXCLUSIVE — Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds United have reached final decision with Chelsea on the transfer Done Deal for 26-year old Midfield leader who is now a Leeds Player after Official Confirmation!

Chelsea may have identified a familiar face as a potential solution to their midfield problems, but Leeds United have apparently already made their position clear.

The Blues find themselves short of options in the centre of the pitch after a late twist in the summer transfer window left them without the reinforcement they had been targeting.

That has inevitably led to attention turning elsewhere, and one player who knows Stamford Bridge particularly well has emerged as a potential option.

Ethan Ampadu spent six years on Chelsea’s books before eventually making his way to Leeds, where he has since developed into one of the most important players in Daniel Farke’s team.

But while Chelsea may be admiring his progress from afar, Leeds have little interest in allowing their captain to walk away.

That is particularly significant given how impressive the Whites have been at the beginning of the new Premier League campaign.

Leeds have made an excellent start to life back among England’s elite, remaining unbeaten across their opening five Premier League matches.

Farke’s side have also conceded just three goals during that run, giving them the joint-best defensive record in the division.

The early form has naturally raised expectations at Elland Road, with European football now looking like a realistic ambition rather than an impossible dream.

A major part of that success has been the balance in midfield.

Anton Stach, Ampadu and Ao Tanaka have provided Farke with a combination of energy, discipline and technical quality, while Ampadu has emerged as the leader of the group.

The Welshman has worn the captain’s armband since the summer of 2024 and signed a new contract in June that keeps him tied to Leeds until 2030.

Despite that long-term commitment, however, speculation has emerged linking him with a sensational return to his former club.

Chelsea’s midfield situation has helped fuel those rumours.

The Blues sold Enzo Fernandez late in the summer transfer window, while their attempt to bring Lamine Camara in from Monaco collapsed at the eleventh hour.

The result has been a shortage of established options in central midfield.

That issue was particularly noticeable during Chelsea’s latest Premier League outing, when Xabi Alonso’s side were beaten 3-0 by Brentford.

Chelsea started with Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco in the middle, further highlighting the lack of depth available to Alonso.

Ampadu’s familiarity with the club has therefore made him an obvious name for some observers to consider.

The 26-year-old already knows Chelsea, having been on their books between 2017 and 2023, and his development at Leeds has reportedly caught the attention of his former employers.

Some media reports have even described him as a potential solution to the problem at Stamford Bridge.

There is, however, one major obstacle.

Leeds Utd reach decision on selling Ethan Ampadu to Chelsea

Leeds have no apparent desire to entertain the possibility.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the Whites have no intention of allowing Ampadu to leave anytime soon, despite the speculation surrounding a potential return to Chelsea.

O’Rourke explained: “Leeds United have no plans to lose Ethan Ampadu any time soon despite links with a move to Chelsea.”

The journalist added: “The Blues are believed to have been impressed by his performances, but he remains an important part of Daniel Farke’s ambitious plans for the future at Leeds.”

That stance is hardly surprising given Ampadu’s importance to the team.

Leeds did not simply hand him a new contract earlier this year as a formality. His long-term deal, running until 2030, reflects the role he has established for himself at Elland Road.

He is a leader within the dressing room, a regular starter and the player trusted to captain Farke’s side.

Losing him at this stage would therefore represent far more than simply allowing another midfielder to leave.

It would mean removing one of the central figures from a team that has made an encouraging start to the Premier League season.

Ampadu has also received recognition for the impact he has made since arriving at Leeds.

He was recently included among Leeds’ 10 best signings of the Premier League era by TEAMtalk editor and well-known Leeds supporter James Marshment.

That recognition underlines just how highly the midfielder is now regarded around Elland Road.

Chelsea may therefore have to look elsewhere for their midfield solution.

The interest in Ampadu makes sense given his history with the club and his performances for Leeds, but the situation is rather different from a player approaching the end of his contract or one who has fallen out of favour.

Ampadu is under contract until 2030 and remains a key part of Farke’s plans.

For Leeds, there is little reason to weaken a side that is already exceeding expectations.

For Chelsea, meanwhile, the problem remains.

Their midfield options are being tested at a time when Alonso is trying to rebuild a side capable of competing consistently at the highest level.

Ampadu could theoretically provide experience, leadership and familiarity with the club, but Leeds appear determined to keep all three qualities at Elland Road.

For now, the message from west Yorkshire is therefore straightforward.

Chelsea may be impressed by Ethan Ampadu’s progress.

Leeds are not planning to let him go.
