Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement with Djurgårdens IF in February 2024 to sign Lucas Bergvall, with the midfielder scheduled to join the north London club later that summer. Upon his arrival, the Sweden international signed a contract running until 2029.
Bergvall quickly established himself as an important member of Tottenham’s squad during his first season, making 45 appearances and helping the club secure Europa League success.
He remained involved under Thomas Frank last season, although his playing time has become less consistent since Roberto De Zerbi took charge in March.
Tottenham’s Major Summer Investment
De Zerbi played a crucial role in guiding Tottenham away from relegation, and the club responded by heavily backing the Italian in the summer transfer window, spending more than €350 million on new players.
Spurs have also handed new contracts to several members of the squad, including Ben Davies, Pedro Porro, Antonín Kinský, Micky van de Ven and Bergvall.
Tottenham had been working on Bergvall’s renewal for an extended period. In April 2025, Sport Witness reported on Swedish claims regarding negotiations over a new deal for the midfielder. At the time, Bergvall was contracted until 2029 and reportedly earned around SEK 22 million (€2 million) annually.
That figure has now increased significantly following his latest renewal.
According to Fotbollskanalen, the 20-year-old Sweden international now earns around £100,000 per week, equivalent to approximately €116,500. His annual salary has risen to around SEK 68 million (€6.04 million).
If the previous salary figures are accurate, Bergvall has therefore received an increase of roughly 200% as part of his new agreement.
Tottenham Rejected Summer Interest
Bergvall was reportedly considering his future at Tottenham during the summer as he sought more regular first-team football. Despite continued speculation, the midfielder repeatedly stressed his desire for increased playing time and stopped short of confirming that he wanted to leave the club.
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were among the clubs reportedly interested in the Sweden international, with claims that offers were made for his services.
However, Tottenham were unwilling to entertain approaches and instead secured Bergvall’s future by agreeing a new contract earlier this month.
The midfielder has made five appearances for Spurs so far this season.
