The 2024 NFL season will see the Cleveland Browns wear white face masks again on their helmets.

Cleveland — The Cleveland Browns will be wearing a piece of history when they hit the field in 2024 for the NFL season.

This season, the Cleveland Browns will don white face masks, the team said on X, the former name of Twitter. The team’s star running back, Nick Chubb, flaunted the retro helmet in one of their photos.

“We are thrilled to commemorate our remarkable past by bringing back the white facemask,” JW Johnson, a partner of the Cleveland Browns, stated to Cleveland Browns.com. “As we continue to write the next chapter of Browns’ history, we reflect on different eras, such as the Kardiac Kids and the return of the franchise, that led us to this place in time.”

Cleveland originally adopted white face masks in 1975, following their first adoption of gray ones. The Browns wore this look until 1995, and then again from 1999 to 2005. The group’s “Kardiac Kids” from the 1980s were the ones who initially popularized the style.

After reintroducing the gray face masks in 2006, Cleveland stuck with them until the 2015 season, when they changed their uniform design to a more contemporary one that included brown face masks. Cleveland kept its brown face mask when it went back to a more traditional appearance in 2020; however, as part of their throwback uniforms inspired by their 75th anniversary, the Browns donned gray face masks three times in 2021.

The Browns have more recently used white facemasks twice, in 2022 and 2023.

“We heard our loyal fans and are thrilled to see the white face mask featured on the Browns’ helmets beginning with the 2024 season and beyond as we continue to write the history of our franchise,” Johnson stated.
